Aging often presents challenges to our pets and those who care for them. Our team at SWVH works closely with owners to evaluate and treat a wide range of conditions that affect our more mature pets including arthritis/joint disease, high blood pressure, ocular changes, internal organ disease, and dementia. The goal of any patient is to maintain the highest quality of life possible for our pets and their families.
We believe that a multimodal approach to pain management is the most effective for patients suffering from joint disease or other chronically painful conditions. While NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatories) are an important component, the use of joint supplements, adjunct pain medications, laser therapy, and physical therapy/rehab (either done with a licensed physical therapist or basic exercises done at home) can reduce the quantity and frequency of medications that are needed and help improve quality of life.
SWVH is here to support not only our patients but their families as they ease into their golden years.
