  • Dr.
    Erin Rasmusson
    Co-Founder/Co-Owner

    Dr. Erin Rasmusson was born in Bozeman, Montana, but spent her childhood in northwest Ohio, where animals were part of her life from an early age.

    She graduated from Heidelberg College in Tiffin, Ohio, with a double major in chemistry and biology, and then attended the Ohio State University's School of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 2003. After completing her internship, she spent four years working with and learning from the team at Klaich Animal Hospital.

    Dr. Rasmusson is proud to have accomplished her dream of owning and operating a veterinary hospital. Special interests include abdominal ultrasound, soft tissue surgery and dentistry/oral surgery, for which she has attended special training and continuing education.

    Outside office, Dr. Rasmusson enjoys trail running, camping, split-boarding, Mt biking and other outdoor activities with her husband, Brent Ryman, and their rescue dog, Carver.

    Christina Martini .
    Co-Owner

    Dr. Christina Martini grew up on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe. She attended the University of Nevada Reno for her undergraduate, receiving a degree in Veterinary Science. She attended veterinary school in beautiful Fort Collins at Colorado State University graduating in 2013. Dr. Martini then completed an internship at Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital, a specialty and emergency hospital, in Denver, CO. Dr. Martini is proud to have been a member of the team at SWVH since 2014, and co-owner since 2017. 

    Dr. Martini's professional interests include internal medicine, dermatology, soft tissue surgery, and preventative medicine. Through the course of her internship, she was given the opportunity to learn from and practice these fields with board certified experts, and has brought these skills to SWVH. She also moonlights on occasion at Animal Emergency and Specialty Center to keep her critical care skills fresh.

    In her free time, she can be found enjoying our unique environment through many outdoor activities including trail running with her rescue dog “Vinnie”, hiking and backpacking in the back country, and skiing or snowboarding the powder. She is married to her high school sweetheart, Aaron, who works in the human medical field. Their cats Oscar and Gambit lead a life of leisure in their home in Southwest Reno.

    Carrie Schroeder
    Associate, Shareholder

    Dr. Carrie Schroeder grew up in Incline Village, NV. Her father was the veterinarian there so animals and veterinary medicine were always part of her life.  She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Idaho in.  After undergraduate school she attended veterinary school at Colorado State University.

    She returned to Nevada for the close proximity to outdoor activities and to start her career as a veterinarian at Klaich Animal Hospital.  After 11 years there she decided to continue her veterinary career here at Southwest Veterinary Hospital.

    Dr. Schroeder and her husband Cody spend their free time camping, snowboarding, fixing up their old house, and exploring Nevada with their son Forest.  Their family also includes 2 cats named Creampuff and Zucchini as well as a variety of backyard chickens.

    Gary Sargent
    Co-Founder (retired)

    Dr. Sargent grew up in the foothills of Southwest Reno where he enjoyed exploring the outdoors with family, friends and his dogs.

    He graduated from the University of Nevada with a B.A. in Zoology, and then attended veterinary school at Colorado State University. Dr. Sargent enjoyed a successful 30-year career at Klaich Animal Hospital before retiring in 2008 to pursue new challenges in owning and operating a small animal veterinary practice with Dr. Erin Rasmusson.

    Dr. Sargent's professional interests include small animal internal medicine, soft-tissue surgery, dermatology, oncology and dentistry. His personal interests seek a balance between year-round outdoor activities and academic interests in veterinary continuing education, current affairs, economics, business, and diverse non-fiction reading.

    Dr. Sargent is married to Elaine (Pappas), also a native of Reno. Their son, Patrick, graduated from Annapolis in 2006 and is currently serving as a U.S. Navy pilot.

  • Stephanie .
    CVPM, PHR - Practice Manager, Shareholder

    Stephanie graduated from the University of Vermont with her Bachelor's degree in Animal Science. She has lived in the U.A.E, England and the U.S but enjoys the sunny weather of Reno the most! Stephanie began working for SWVH in 2008 (with a small break to try out CO) and has now proudly gained her Certified Veterinary Practice Manager and Professional in Human Resource certifications. She spends her time outside of work hiking with her Doberman Pinscher, 'Riva'. Stephanie is a member of the Doberman Pinscher Club of America and actively participates in AKC rally/obedience, conformation and agility events.

  • Nicole A.
    Licensed Veterinary Technician (nurse), Shareholder

    Nicole has been with SWVH since September 2009. After growing up in Las Vegas, she moved to Reno in 2005 to attend UNR. She has a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science and passed her Licensed Veterinary Technician exam in 2012. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her husband and their daughter, Natalia. She also enjoys strength training and is interested in competitive power lifting. She shares her home with her two dogs: a Shih Tzu mix named 'Remy', and a Goldendoodle named 'Luna'

  • Nicole F. .
    Licensed Veterinary Technician (nurse)

    Nicole has been working in the veterinary field since 2004 and joined team SWVH in 2011. She is a proud graduate and was class valedictorian of the TMCC Veterinary Technology program. Nicole passed her LVT boards July 2014 and has enjoyed expanding her skills since. Her fun-loving, crazy pets run her household, “Pogo” and 'Nacho', two Chihuahua mix rescues. She also has a beautiful daughter, Kyra who keeps her busy in her spare time and aspires to be just like her Mom!

  • Shawntay .
    Licensed Veterinary Technician (nurse), Shareholder

    Shawntay was born in Reno NV, and has lived in the area all her life. She earned her Associates degree in Veterinary Technology from TMCC in May, 2015. In her spare time Shawntay enjoys spending time with her family, taking trips to Disneyland, and hiking around Nevada with her dogs Buster, a German Shepherd/Lab mix and Posey, a Golden Retriever. Shawntay has been with SWVH since 2012 and is looking forward to a long and rewarding career in the Veterinary field.

  • Amanda .
    Veterinary Technician Specialty (Dentristry), Shareholder

    Amanda started working at SWVH in 2012 as a student assistant. She graduated from the Truckee Meadows Community College Veterinary Technician program as valedictorian in 2015. In 2022, she became a Veterinary Technician Specialist in Dentistry, only 1 of 3 in the state of Nevada! She has loved expanding her knowledge and is looking forward to helping owners and pets with not only oral health care but showing how it can improve overall wellness and quality of life. Her special interests include dental radiology, interceptive orthodontics, and early periodontal disease treatment. Outside of work she enjoys reading, photography, hiking, exploring National Parks, and spending time with her husband Kyle, their two dogs Kaya and Indy, and their 7 chickens!

  • Shelby .
    Licensed Veterinary Technician (nurse)

    Shelby grew up in California and moved to Reno in 2015 to finish her college career at the University of Nevada. She is studying veterinary science and has always had a true passion for animals. She enjoys helping people with their pets and looks forward to a lifelong career with animals. Her best friend is her dog, Willow, who is the most carefree and happiest dog you'll ever meet. In her spare time she likes to paddle board with her dog in Tahoe, go camping, and explore new food places in the area.

  • Liberty .
    Licensed Veterinary Technician (nurse)

    Liberty grew up in Ely, NV, and moved to Reno in 2016, to attend the Veterinary Technician program at TMCC. After graduating in 2018, Liberty passed her licensing exam and worked on her skills at a local hospital. She is excited to continue her career at SWVH! One of her long-term goals is to work in wildlife rehabilitation. In her free time, Liberty loves riding horses, hiking around Lake Tahoe, and spending time with her fiancé. At home, Liberty has two cats, Murph and Moose, and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Francine.

  • Amanda K.

    Amanda grew up in the small town of Ukiah in northern California and received her Bachelor’s degree from UC Santa Barbara. She discovered her love of animal medicine while volunteering at a Denver parrot shelter and soon began working at a small animal clinic.  She moved to Reno and joined the Southwest Vet team in 2019.  In her free time she enjoys exploring the outdoors, reading and spending time with her husband, son, and two budgies.

  • Danielle

    Danielle grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, moved to Colorado and now since July, is living in Reno. After graduating from Ohio University, she worked an array of different jobs before figuring out that her love and passion for animals is what makes her most happy. Now, with 7 years experience, she is excited to join the SWVH family. In her spare time she loves dancing, painting, hiking and skiing with her fiancé who is completing his sports medicine fellowship at UNR.

  • Jasmine .

    Jasmine grew up in Coos Bay, a coastal town in Oregon. She has always had a passion for animals and is very excited to be apart of the SWVH team as she pursues her veterinary technician education. She enjoys all that the Truckee Meadows area has to offer including hiking, kayaking and snowboarding. On the weekends she teaches local dog training classes. Jasmine has three dogs, a chiweenie named Cosmo, a cattle dog named Britta, and a Schipperke named Turk.
